ISU Future Days – Excursion to Austrian nurseries

The second Future Days of the International Perennial Union (ISU) will take place in Langenlois near Vienna on October 9–10. Registrations have been received mainly from young perennial gardeners from eight countries, who will be intensively discussing future issues in the cultivation and design of perennials.
On October 11, the ISU is also inviting visitors to three perennial nurseries that integrate sustainability aspects into their horticultural practices based on traditional principles.
Hameter Perennial Nursery, Baumgarten:
This traditional nursery cultivates perennials on 3.5 hectares using organic methods. The perennials are treated exclusively with organic fertilizers, and the substrates have been 50% peat-reduced for many years. An extensive plant strengthening program increases their resistance. The perennials are sold exclusively in reusable containers and the pots are taken back. The nursery generates its own electricity for its 12 electric vehicles via a photovoltaic system.
Praskac Pflanzenland, Tulln a. d. Donau
Prascac is one of the oldest nurseries in Austria. Their main products are trees and shrubs with an excellent selection, but they have also a reputable assortment of perennials. They opened a new garden center some years ago which we will visit during the excursion but also have a mail order nursery attached to it. Franz Prascac has been a member of the ISU for many years and was the chairman of the Austrian Perennial Union. His knowledge and experience is very inspiring. The nursery advertises its very large range of over 1,100 perennials and guarantees private customers that the perennials will grow if properly cared for.
Oberleitner Gartenkultur Pöchlarn
With its wide variety of perennials, the focus is on daylilies (with over 700 varieties), irises, and peonies, as well as the cultivation of special varieties. Garden advice and garden planning are additional attractions at the perennial nursery. An extensive climate change and natural garden and a large mother plant garden are areas where visitors can experience and see new varieties and innovative planting concepts. In 2021, the nursery moved to a new 2.7-hectare site on the outskirts of the village.
The event will be held in English.
The first 20 registrations from participants under the age of 30 will receive a price reduction. Contact: info@isu-perennials.org
