ISU: Botanical excursion in Slovenia
Every two years, the International Perennial Union (ISU) organizes exploratory tours for its members with renowned experts who are familiar with the region being visited, its flora, and hikes to sites of particular botanical interest.
This year, Thomas Ster, former director of the Botanical Garden in Graz, Austria, guided perennial gardeners from Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, and Norway to areas of botanical and scenic interest in the Hochkarst region of Slovenia.
Endemic and Mediterranean plants were discovered in the Hochkarst region. For example, Hladnikia pastinacifolia is limited to only 4 km² in the Trnovo forest plateau in western Slovenia. The ISU is planning its next international excursion in 2027 in the mountains of Greece.
