ISU excursion to Kyrgyzstan impresses perennial gardeners
Discover species-rich flora and endemic specialities again in 2018

Seeing specialities for local gardens growing abundantly in a natural site impresses plant lovers. An excursion by the International Hardy Plant Union (ISU) to Kyrgyzstan from 18th to 28th June 2017 also clearly showed the 16 participants the optimum local conditions of these plants.

Dutch botanist Brian Kabbes and his Kyrgyzstani wife Meerim Kozhoshova showed the breadth of Kyrgyzstan’s extensive flora in the Chong-Kemin National Park, in the Skazka desert landscape and in a barren canyon by the large Issyk Kul Lake. Many endemic specialities impressed alongside planting combinations of Dictamnus angustifolius and Aconitum karakolicum, white Eremurus tianschanicus, Salvia sclarea var. turkestanica in white and pink, white Alcea nudiflora and yellow Achillea wilhelmsii. Hills with yellow Delphinium semibarbatum, brooks lined with tall Ligularia macrophylla and the extravagant blossoms of Leontopodium fedtschenkoanum will remain in the memories the participants from Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden and Germany for a long time to come.

The ISU is offering this excursion once again from 19th to 29th June 2018. More information and registration for the limited places at info@isu-perennials.org.
